The preschool years are an amazing time when children are building friendships and putting newly developed skills to work. Our preschool room is designed to help your child develop the social and emotional skills to support these budding friendships and the support they need to help them as they learn and grow. We know that children need to feel supported, encouraged, and challenged in the classroom, so our Teachers make sure to spend plenty of one-on-one time with each child.

The Growing Mind

We believe that learning and growing should be a fun and exciting time for children, so our curriculum is designed to engage the children through hands on learning games and activities. Our theme based curriculum uses themes that are exciting for Preschoolers to learn about and explore like Dinosaurs, The Rainforest, Pirates, Sports, and Creative Movement, to name a few.

Literacy & Writing

We use the Evan-Moor Everyday Literacy Reading and Writing Kindergarten Curriculum combined with fun literacy games and activities to help your preschooler develop reading skills to prepare them for Kindergarten. We focus on teaching children to recognize letters by sight and sound, associate letters with words, build and read 3 letter words, and recognize rhymes.

Math

Our Preschool Program uses the Shapes and Measurements and Numbers math curriculum by Teacher Created Resources along with a variety of theme based games, activities, and worksheets to promote the development of Early Math skills. These activities are carefully designed to promote the development of color, shape, and number recognition, numbers-quantity association, understanding of opposites, and a beginning understanding of money and time.

About My Day

The preschool day is designed to carefully blend teacher directed learning with child initiated play and exploration. We provide children with a consistent schedule and routines so they know what to expect. Each day your child will have opportunities to develop literacy, writing, and math skills; express their creativity with art; and explore and play with science, sensory, outdoor, and free choice activities. Your child will also participate in Group Time each day. This is a time when the children come together to explore the theme and practice different skills. When you pick up, we encourage you to check out the “What We Did Today” board to learn more about what your child did during the day. Following nap time, your child will have the opportunity to brush their teeth as part of our health education program. We provide an individually labeled toothbrush and toothpaste for your child. And don’t forget to pick up your child’s weekly report each Friday to see the highlights of your child’s week and find some tips on what you can do with your child at home to continue their growth and learning.

Field Trips

Field trips are a great opportunity for children to explore, learn, and have fun. As a member of our Polka Dot classroom, your child will get to participate in a field trip each month. We take field trips to a variety of places including the Children’s Museum, Parks, the Science Museum, Apple Orchards, and the Zoo. In addition, they will take trips to a local nursing home to do arts and crafts with the residents.
